News
It's
December, which means all kinds of things . . . but at Borderlands it means
that, as usual, we'll have complementary coffee, hot chocolat, and tea all
month (with the occasional sweet treat as well) and our hours will be extended.
From December1st untill Christmas we'll be open from noon to 10 pm on Friday
and Saturday and noon to 8 pm Sunday to Thursday. We are also, as always,
open by appointment if your schedule is super busy. Just give us a
call and we'll set up a time to open the store for you. Also, we'll
be working some late nights so, if you're a little late and want to give
us a call, we're willing to stay open later so you can get your last minute
shopping done.
We'll be closed on Christmas day and New Years day and also closing earily on the 24th (at 6 pm) and the 31st (at 4 pm).
It also means that it's time for our holiday gift guide -
========================
Borderlands' Holiday Gift Guide
========================
Here are some gift ideas from the Borderlands staff. Each suggestion
starts with the type of reader and is followed by one (or more) titles that
they might like. If these don't do it for you, we're happy to make
more suggestions - just tell us about the person you're shopping for.
Can't decide? We have gift certificates available in any amount.
Gift wrapping is available, and we can ship almost anywhere in the world.
Enjoy!

Upcoming Event Details
Monday, December 6th to Friday, December 10th from 2 PM to 6 PM, Alan Clark and Jay Lake STIRRING THE FEAR WITHIN
Where can you watch an award-winning painter and an award-winning
artist collaboratively produce an illustrated work of fiction in just one
week? Borderlands, of course! Once again we're pleased to have
artist Alan Clark (creator of THE PAINT IN MY BLOOD and winner of the World
Fantasy Award) and author Jay Lake (author of AMERICAN SORROWS and winner
of this year's John W. Campbell Jr. award) set up shop in the middle of our
store for a week of spontaneous creative work. They'll be working from
two 'till six every day and are always happy to chat with visitors about
their work, creative processes, and the field in general. If you are
an aspiring artist or author or if you just like to chat with creative people
do not miss this chance to visit with two of the most pleasant people in
the field.
Wednesday, December 8th at 1 PM, Christopher Moore drop by signing for THE STUPIDEST ANGEL
Chris will be stopping by the store briefly to sign copies of his
newest novel (see description below). If you would like a copy inscribed
for you (or as a gift for a friend) just let us know and we'll take care
of it for you. Also, if you would like to drop any books by the store,
we'll try (but we can't promise) to get them signed. And finally, if
you're free that afternoon, you're welcome to stop by and say hello.
THE STUPIDEST ANGEL by Christopher Moore (William Morrow, Other Hardcover,
$14.95) - It's another lonesome Christmas in the sleepy little tourist town
of Pine Cove, where the angel Razael has arrived to find a child and perform
a Christmas miracle. Of course, being the stupidest angel, he botches
it completely, and the town is overrun by brain-eating zombies. This
"heartwarming tale of Christmas terror" by Borderlands' fave funny dude Christopher
Moore is just sick enough to cure the holiday blues. - Recommended by Cary
"If you're buying this book as a gift for your grandma or a kid, you should
be aware that it contains cusswords as well as tasteful depictions of cannibalism
and people in their forties having sex. Don't blame me. I told
you." - The Author's Warning
Friday, December 10th at 7 PM, Reception for Alan Clark and Jay Lake
This reception will wrap up our week with Alan and Jay. They'll
present the finished product of the week's work and sign copies of their
books. Refreshments will be provided.
Borderlands event policy - all events are free of charge. You are welcome
to bring copies of an author's books purchased elsewhere to be autographed
(but we do appreciate it if you purchase something while at the event), except
for some special events. For most events you are welcome to bring as
many books as you wish for autographs. If you are unable to attend
the event, we will be happy to have a copy of the author's book signed or
inscribed for you. We can then either hold it until you can come in
to pick it up or we can ship it to you. Just give us a call or drop
us an email. If you live out of town, you can also ship us books from
your collection to be signed. Call or email for details.
Chapter Two - Book Listings

- Collected short fiction by this master of the surreal.
BAD MAGIC by Stephan Zielinski (Tor, Hardcover, $23.95) - Dark magic and
secret wars in modern San Francisco by this local author. Though it
shows some of the weaknesses of a first novel, it's an interesting story
that will appeal to fans of Tim Powers, Doctor Strange, and the Bordertown
books. Recommended by Alan.
THE SCIENCE FICTION HALL OF FAME VOLUME TWO A edited by Ben Bova (Tor, Hardcover,
$29.95) - The second of four must have collections of classic SF. If

Tor will be reprinting G GAME shortly.

Recommended by Alan.

by Alan.
